Stroke has a new indicator They say if you e-mail this to ten people, you stand a chance of saving one life. Will you send this along? Blood Clots/Stroke- They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ...she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PMJane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read this.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A

SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(I.e. It is sunny out today.)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

I was please if not some what surprised to see the Sittingbourne News printed my letter, the Gazette would only print letters which not to controversial, which was not good for local democracy. The normal lefties will come out to give me a good beating but who cares a least all of us are getting a forum to air our views. Something the Political Elite do not allow or if they do they ignore the majority.

The letter was meant to upset people and get people talking, I expect there will be the letter stating that so and so has worked but is now on the dole so why should I insult them. That is why at the beginning of the letter I said “Those who refuse to work” totally different to someone who wants to work but can not get a Job. I notice that the editor never put the whole letter in missing was “Getting to work is not easy and jobs are hard to find and the government are aware of this and will be allowing some discretion for those who genuinely want to work which I think is fair. On this subject can they start clearing out the foreigners who are taking our jobs and only allow them back when we have a job surplus and can I say to Employers that they have “A Duty of Moral Leadership and Financial Care to their less fortunate country man” because I am one of those who getting sick and tired of being told the majority of Englishman are too lazy to work, that is untrue. It is employers big firms, farmers who want cheap labour who will work 6 days a week 14 hours a day so they get a big porofit, can I suggest they start thinking of othes instead their greedy selves,

Dear Editor

In my anger at the Labour Party and the Bishops, I made some hasty mistakes in my letter which I apologise for:

1) I said the highest limit was £25,000 I should have said £26,000

2) I also said that you can rent a house for £700 pcm; I then calculated that to be £8,400 per anum. Which I then deducted this from the maximum payment of £25,000 leaving £219.23p per week after deducting services. This was totally incorrect as I forgot that unemployed can get up to £650 pcm Housing Benefit. So the figures should be£26,000 minus £1200 services and £600 per anum rent leaving £465.38p per week

I do apologise to your readers for letting them think these people who refuse to work only have £219.23p per week to live instead it should have been £465.38p

Mind You a married man with children working at ASDA would like to have a take home pay of £400 plus

Another thing that annoys me is the single man does not get no where near the £26,000, I rent Flats and 3 of my tenants have lost their jobs in the last few years and what they get is the following Housing benefit maximum £450 pcm there rent is £480 pcm, they get their Council Tax paid for plus they get £68 per week Job Seekers Allowance. With that £68 per week they have to find £7.50 rent, Electric £5 per week (average) leaving them £55.50p for food and one of then, who is 60, has been told by the Unemployment Office he has to maintain a car so if a job is offered where there is no public transport he can travel. It is this group of people the Older Single Person who should be up in arms and being supported by the Government and Bishops but NO they are the FORGOTTEN ONES and they want to work.

The government wants to put a maximum limit of £25,000 per annum on what long term benefit claimants can get. Great Idea why should anyone who refuses to work be better off out of work, most are lazy benefit cheats. You can rent a three bedroom house in Swale for on average £700 pcm that’s £8,400 per annum, leaving 16,600 for everything else or £319.23p per week. Allowing £100 pw for services (gas, etc) remember you do not pay Council Tax this will leave you £219.23p pw not a fortune but enough to live on I would suggest. Yet Paddy Ashdown, the Labour party and the C of E Bishops think that this wrong and we should not mess around with the maximum limit as it will make people homeless. Did you know what statisticians and Government consider homeless? When more than one child shares a bedroom, if that is the case when I lived at Hythe Road for 13 years I was homeless as I had 3 bedrooms with 3 children and myself and my wife. I always have to laugh at the Church of England when they moan about how we treat the homeless yet they have £billons of property which can be converted into housing. A government minister has said that some will have to move from their current homes TO RIGHT why should someone who permanently unemployed live in a expensive area or live in rented accommodation which they cannot afford if they working. We have all read the papers and seen people who have are living on benefit in housing that cost over £2000 pcm.

AN OPEN LETTER TO GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL

Dear Madam Chancellor

Permit me to begin this letter with a brief description of my knowledge of, and affection for, your country. I first came to Germany as a boy student aged 13 in 1952, two years before you were born. After three extended vacations with German families who spoke no English I found at the age of 16 and to my pleasure that I could pass for German among Germans.

In my 20s I was posted as a foreign correspondent to East Germany in 1963, when you would have been a schoolgirl just north of East Berlin where I lived. I know Germany, Frau Merkel, from the alleys of Hamburg to the spires of Dresden, from the Rhine to the Oder, from the bleak Baltic coast to the snows of the Bavarian Alps. I say this only to show you that I am neither ignoramus nor enemy.

I also had occasion in those years to visit the many thousands of my countrymen who held the line of the Elbe against 50,000 Soviet main battle tanks and thus kept Germany free to recover, modernise and prosper at no defence cost to herself. Also, from inside the Cold War I saw our decades of effort to defeat the Soviet empire and set your East Germany free.

I was therefore deeply disappointed last Friday to see you take the part of a small and vindictive Frenchman in what can only be seen as a targeted attack on the land of my fathers.

We both know that every country has at least one aspect of its society or economy that is so crucial, so vital that it simply cannot be conceded. For Germany it is surely your automotive sector, your car industry. Any foreign-sourced measure to target German cars and render them unsalable would have to be opposed to veto-point by a German chancellor.

For France it is the agricultural sector. For more than 50 years members of the EU have been taxed under the terms of the Common Agricultural Policy in order to subsidise France's agriculture. Indeed, the CAP has been the cornerstone of every EU budget since the first day. Attack it and France fights back.

For us (the UK) the crucial corner of our economy is the financial services industry. Although parts of it exist all over the country it is concentrated in that part of London known even internationally as "the City". It is not just a few greedy bankers; we both have those but the City is far more. It is indeed a vast banking agglomeration of more banks than anywhere else in the world. But that is the tip of the iceberg. Also in the City is the world's greatest concentration of insurance companies. Add to that the brokers; traders in stocks and shares worldwide, second only, and then maybe not, to Wall Street. But it is not just stocks. The City is also home to the "exchanges" of gold and precious metals, diamonds, base metals, commodities, futures, derivatives, coffee, cocoa: the list goes on and on and has not yet touched upon shipping, aviation, fuels, energy, textiles – enough!

Suffice to say the City is the biggest and busiest marketplace in the world. It makes the Paris Bourse look like a parish council set against the United Nations and even dwarfs your Frankfurt many times. That, surely, is the point of what happened in Brussels. The French wish to wreck it and you seem to have agreed. Its contribution to the British economy is not simply useful nor even merely valuable. It is absolutely crucial.

The financial services industry contributes 10 per cent of our Gross Domestic Product and 17.5 per cent of our taxation revenue. A direct and targeted attack on the City is an attack on my country. That, although devised in Paris, is what you have chosen to support.

You seem to have decided that Britain is once again Germany's enemy, a situation that has not existed since 1945. I deeply regret this but the choice was yours and entirely yours.

The Transaction Tax or Tobin Tax you reserve the right to impose would not even generate money for Brussels. It would simply lead to massive emigration from London to other havens. Long ago it was necessary to live in a city to trade in it. In the days when deals can flash across the world in a nanosecond all a major brokerage needs is a suite of rooms, computers, telephones and the talent of the young people barking offers and agreements down the phone. Such a suite of rooms could be in Berne, Turin, Zurich or even Singapore. Under your Tobin Tax tens of thousands would leave London. This would not help Brussels; it would simply help destroy the British economy.

Your conference did not even save the euro. Permit me a few home truths about the euro. It is a Franco-German construct. It was a German chancellor (Kohl) who ordered a German banker (Karl Otto Pohl) to get together with a French civil servant (Delors) on the orders of a French president (Mitterrand) and create a common currency. Which they did – though it was a flawed construct. Like a ship with a twisted hull it might float in calm water but if it ever hit a force eight it would probably founder. Even then it might have worked for it was launched with a manual of rules, the Growth And Stability Pact. If the terms of that book of rules had been complied with the Good Ship Euro might have survived. But compliance was entrusted to the European Central Bank which catastrophically failed to insist on that compliance.

Rules governing the growing of cucumbers are more zealously enforced. This was a European Bank in a German city under a French president and it failed in its primary, even its sole, duty. This had everything to do with France and Germany and nothing whatever to do with Britain.

Yet in Brussels last week the EU pack seemed intent only on venting its spleen on the country that wisely refused to abolish its pound. You did not even address yourselves to saving the euro but only to seeking a way to ensure it might work in some future time. But the euro will not be saved. It is crumbling now. And since you have now turned against my country, from this side of the Channel, Madame Chancellor, one can only say of the euro:

YOU MADE IT, YOU MEND IT.

Badger Baiting

I have never understood my people kill animals in such a barbaric way and seem to enjoy their pain and suffering BUT some wild animals need to be controlled. I see nothing wrong with fox hunting at least the fox has a chance rather then gassing them also find interesting that people never complain about RATTING this where they put Jack Russell's in area where there are lots of rat, these dogs are a killing machine, disposing of the rat instantly. As for badgers, some of you may follow the Archers on Radio 4, well on one of the farm they have a slurry pit where the badgers have dug under neath and the pit is leaking. This is a fineable offence and can pollute the local river, so our farmer has already spent thousands of pounds repairing pit but the badgers have carried on, now the Farmer Will have to pay several tens of thousands put in a metal or plastic tank. If he buys it he may bankrupt him on he may have to move out of dairy farming. Whys because DEFRA will not allow him to get rid of the Badgers, I wonder if they dug under the footings of a house and put the house in a dangerous situation would this be allowed.

Well what about British Students do they deserve a chance at least they do not clear off every 6 months to avoid paying Tax and National Insurance.

I went and visited young Miles Loscombe in a children’s Hospital, he looked considerably well considering he had been hit in the head by a car and part of his brain and skull removed, He was sitting in a special chair and cannot talk but you can see he hears things and is aware, his dad George tells us there has been a great improvement in the last couple of weeks. George has lived at the hospital for nearly 3 months but will be back on the Judo Mat Tuesday. No one can tell how long it will take for Miles to get better or how he is affected but after seeing him I am full of hope.

On the way back we stopped at the Fountain Pub near Sittingbourne Railway Station, it has a new landlord and serves Thai food, you have to wait abouty3/4 hour for the food to be made but it is well worth the wait it was superb, We had a Green Curry, 2 potions rice, Sweet sour dish, stir fry dish and two soups, everything comes out together as is the custom in Thailand you have the soup as you are having the main meal. For two of us it came to £30.50p OK it is a pub a quiet one I might add not full of TV’s, but you have to try it to believe it.

I see Scotland’s Independence is on the cards again, most of you know I love going to Scotland I have good friends there but surely the strength of GB is that we are altogether? Yet I have to agree with Cameron that it is not just about Scotland having a referendum about breaking up the Union, the English should have a say on whetted we still want them. The SNP want to break with the rest of GB and become a subsidiary of the EU some independence that is. I have put a couple of comments from the DM which I found very good

Dianne Abbott makes racist remarks about white people and has said in the past Black people cannot be racist, now switch that around and imagine a white politician saying that about Black people. How long it before he was kicked out as MP? Abbott should be sacked so people realise racisms is among all people irrelevant of race.

Scotland could not raise enough in taxation to support its population and the level of services it now enjoys. Independence from England would mean total surrendering of that independence to the whims of the EU. Out of the frying pan into the fire.

Listening to Radio 4 News programmes they don a piece on Stephen Hawking as he reached 70 they had a question and answer. Question 1 was how did the universe begin? His answer was that there was first nothing and then there was an explosion and the Universe started No mention of God or Supreme Being. On Friday I attended the funeral of Cllr Brenda Simpson, why do I bring this to your attention? Well just opened the newspaper to see all those who won knighthoods and other various gongs, one wonders how many of them are worth what they were given. Knighthoods only go to the rich who seems to buy the award as for OBE’s etc they go to Sports Personalities who have achieved the gong for maybe winning a World Championship, surely that in its self is enough and how has that helped others, what of the 24 year old ex convict drug dealer who now has formed company to help deprived kids. Very commendable but he has only been doing it a few years maybe after 20 years?

I said Brenda got a reasonable Obituary in the paper but why did we have to se her dead before she was honoured, lets look at what she done

At a very young age she lost her husband and had to bring a daughter by herself but this did not stop her succeeding. She won the Kemsley seat in I believe 1988 for the Conservatives, this seat was a very working class seat so should have gone to Labour. She held this seat till she died a remarkable achievement and why because the local electorate new her and respected her but more then that she was a worker. Her life revolved around her job as a councillor and supporting animal charities, that translated meant “A life time helping others”

I served as a Councillor for a while with her and knew how stubborn she could be when fighting for one of her projects s well as being a Councillor she served as the Mayor of Swale, Chairman Swale Conservatives, the list what she has done for the people of Swale is to long to put here. Cllr Brenda Simpson will be missed by those who knew but also those who did not know because she will be a hard act to follow.

I expect she is up there with the Angels forming a committee for Angels rights. Rest in Peace Brenda. God will give you the recognition you richly deserve

Every Christmas Eve since 1967 a group of friends have met to have a drink during the day, we ended up calling ourselves the Christmas Eve Club. When we were younger it was an excuse to visit loads of different pubs and get thoroughly drunk, my brother and myself would then go to my mum’s house and celebrate her Christmas that included a big meal by 10 o clock we were asleep. The Kids would wake me up and then Val would take us home, Norman’s wife eventually stopped coming Christmas Eve but funnily enough Mum always said she enjoyed seeing her boys have a good time.

As the years went by we all matured or was it that we just could not take the alcohol anymore? We would reminisce about youth and what we had done during the past year, some of us only met Christmas Eve. Also as we got older we started to lose our parents, we would then talk about there life and what it was to be brought up by them. All of them had seen World War 2 and when we were young we all learnt a lot from what they told us having a German mother I saw both sides, yet we still did not know everything.

One of my best Mates Johnny Elmer was saying that his mother was 96 and still lived by herself; she obviously had carers come in but still an achievement. John’s Dad “Nobby Elmer” has died a few years previous and I related how I popped round to see him not long before he died. He got out his scrap book of his years as a prisoner of war; he was captured at Dunkirk and released at the end of the European war, 5 years in all. He knew my mother was German, well he should do myself and John started primary school together, I asked what he felt about the Germans. His reply was a shock as he held no malice against his captives, they were just soldiers like us Brits serving there country and the regime in prison was hard he said but the guards were never cruel, I do not know if he was Christian but there was a sense of Christian forgiveness.

As I related this story and said to John you must keep the scrap book or give it to a military museum, he came out with more stories. Nobby Elmer was kept as a prisoner in Poland and when the Soviet Army was advancing all the prisoners were made to march. The long march started on Boxing Day 1944. Nobby reckoned they were moved for their own safety as the Soviet Army was killing everything in its path. This march would take him across Poland, Czechoslovakia and right through Germany and finished in April 1945. In that time they slept by the roadside and in pig styles to keep warm. When they eventually reached there destination they were given a prison camp formally occupied by the French and the mattress were riddled with lice and bugs. In typical British pluck they threw the entire mattress out on the parade ground and demanded new ones and the Germans agreed. Even after 4 months of marching they still would not succumb to being down trodden there was still a roar in the British lion.

This was not the end, his freedom came when one morning they woke to find no guards and the gates open eventually he was flown home. I said he must have come back to a good pay packet, he laughed and said he got nothing of back pay, what about counselling another laugh, what you done in those days you talked your mates or your mum and dad.

After all that you would think his job had been done? NO he was called back to barracks after just 4 weeks leave to train for the assault on Japan as luck had it for him the war finished in the September

I expect not many of you have heard of this so called Comic, he is one of many so called alternatives Comedian, who rely on swearing, making outrageous statement, making comments about people’s genitalia and generally being crude and rude, their shock humor causing a nervous laugh, of is this right to listen to, in the great majority of normal people. Those who like his humor go to the different so called comedy clubs to listen to him and that is the right place for him and his somewhat perverted audience. Yet should he be on National TV without some sort of warning of the content of his act? Especially as he sees nothing wrong in his jokes and thinks he has the right to insult, not question but insult Billions of people belief. Not only does he think this is comedy but the BBC pay him!

I sat down on Friday night to watch Morecambe and Wise and Tommy Cooper Christmas show, there was not one swear word, not one sex joke, not one joke about bodily functions and these programs were over 30 years old but still popular enough to put on TV. Can you imagine comedians like Tim Minchin and the other alternative comedians being repeated in 30 years time NO thank God.

The wife Valerie went out for her Annual Christmas meal with a group of friends, they went to a restaurant where they had entertainment, a tribute singer. Everything was going well until a band of drunken louts who were also in the restaurant started to dance banging into people, trying to man handle the singer and smashing bottles of wine. With the eventual consequence the entertainment finished before time. Why do these people pick this time of year to ruin every ones fun and why didn’t the manager throw the trouble maker out?

These drunken louts by the way were women in their forties and one who was in her sixties who tried to dress like a twenty year old. You can just imagine her in long jumper with belt holding her massive midriff, high heels, face and body frazzled by excessive smoking and alcohol abuse a disgusting site. She should have had a warning sign on her “Beware in Danger of Collapse” or “ Danger Polluted Area”

No Indian for me

Warriors Sombo/Judo Night out was last night at the Leteif Indian Restaurant. Sadly I never did get my meal. The club was booked for 9pm at 9.30pm we still did not have our table ready, so myself and Valerie said enough is enough and walked out.

So why did this happen?

the place was over subscribed
a group of young women booked the tables we were meant to be on for a 6.30pm start so the owner anticipated that they would be finished by 9pm, they did not allow for the fact some never arrived till 7.30pm. This was some sort of works party and it was obvious they were settle in for the night.

I was extremely annoyed as it ruined mine and Valerie’s Christmas night out with the club. The rest stayed and eventually got sat down and finished their meal at 11.30pm.

Valerie and a group of her friends have booked for tonight, she has already warned them there better not be any mistakes tonight.

It is a good Indian but it is highly unlikely that I shall go there again

Drinks at the Whyman's-Heartbeat-Idiot Clegg

It’s been many years since I have been invited out to Christmas drinks, so it was a pleasant surprise that I, Val and a few other friends were invited to Keith and Wendy Whyman’s house on Saturday for drinks and nibbles. Nibbles turned out to be a full buffet so no one went hungry. The pair has a nice house in Milton Regis what was nice and Christmasee was a nice open fire. The eight of us there were all about the same age, the conversation was not the usual about a new car or holiday it was more about what pain killers we were taking for our Arthritis, mind you when the wine started flowing the conversation altered and up came the subject of “Heartbeat” this was a TV serious of our teenage years. We all started reminiscing, my motorbike and sidecar, card playing on a Sunday after noon, me beating up my little brother (I am sure they have that wrong but mind you little brothers can be a pain), Sunday night pictures, my Dog Bobby jumping into Jaycees moving care and forcing him out. Good day’s mind you Christmas is the time to reminisce, thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

As you can see I am a fanatical Heartbeat fan, it reminded me of my youth and a time where things seemed to be easier. You left School and went straight into Job or apprenticeship and the only foreign language you heard was a Scottish, Irish or Welsh accent. No pregnant school girls, if you got a girl into trouble you married her, marriage was the normal way to live together and there was silly notion that marriage was between a man and women, non married couples living together was classified as living in sin. Men did not father children from a multitude of women, most men considered their duty to support their family and people respected authority. Yet I realise I am seeing my youth through rose tinted glasses but there were many things wrong with 1960’s its just I cannot remember them.

Heartbeat has started from the beginning with Nick Rowan and his wife moving to Aidensfield, these two actors I believe play the part so well you actually feel they are married they have a sparkle about them I have never seen in other actors playing a married couple. It reminds we of my own marriage, the working together , the expectations for the future mind you after 41 years of marriage that still applies, the only difference is I can no longer catch when chasing her round the bedroom, and NO means NO and dancing naked in the rain is completely out of the question.

Susan Kids at RC School

My daughter Susan has carried on my Roman Catholic Faith by getting married in a RC Church (sorry to say the B**stard has left her and her kids for another women) and sending her children to a RC School. My father had a bad time as a child in a RC School so I and my brother never went to one. In the 1960’s it did not seem to matter that much as all schools taught the Christian Faith and us Catholics had a Priest come in each morning to teach us our Catechism, if we wanted to we could opt out of RE lessons , something I never did.

Things have changed since then my 3 other grandchildren go to non denomination Schools where they put give equal time to Christianity as Islamism, Judaism, Sikhism and Hinduism, although I think they should spend the majority of time learning about Christianity, I also think it does no harm learning about the others. Especially as these main religions have a lot in common. What disturbs me is that time is given to Atheism and the teaching of Richard Dawkins; his followers like Prof Richard Bailey refer to my belief in God as Martin with his invisible friend. This was meant as insult but when you think about it, there is truth in what he said. Another quasi religious theme is the teaching of Homosexuality in schools as it was a normal, when according to government statistics only 1.5% admits to having this sexual deviance. My grandson Harry last year had no idea what the real reason of Christmas was I had to tell him, his school had just finished teaching him about Islam.

Yet my granddaughter Poppy age 7 is having a great education St Peter’s RC School, most importantly she is being taught a set of Moral and ethical values.

Before you ask NO I do not go to Mass on a regularly basis but I still believe

Can I first congratulate you on responding so quickly with regard to having a local newspaper for Sittingbourne?

My concern is the story about the Morrison store and who they intend employing. When Morrison’s applied for planning of their huge Distribution Centre in Kemsley we were led to believe that part of the planning application was that they guaranteed 80% of the work force would taken from the local community and the only other reason for the employment of foreign labour was that they would come from other depots and had experience. This was met with great joy for the people of Sittingbourne with the prospects of many new jobs being created. I have subsequently found both points untrue, their was nothing in the planning consent about where they got their workforce, something SBC Planning should be ashamed of and I am told by English workers that staff is over 50% foreign.

With Unemployment among Her Majesties British Subject at there highest levels for 17 years is Morrison’s going to do the same as they did in their distribution centre employ nearly all foreign nationals? Are the people of Sittingbourne going to be good enough to buy from their supermarket but not good enough to work for them. Foreign national 80% who are Polish are still flocking to this country and being employed and our Government is allowing this

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North Platte, Nebraska, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.

Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Missouri .

The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Assoc. for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.

How can this be fair, some of us have worked hard to get money together and property, we also have paid in a lot with National Insurance note the word Insurance because we have done this we could be penalised. Those who have squandered their money away are not penalised what that tells you about being a responsible citizen. On top of this the Libdems want to increase Council Tax if you have unused rooms, not just for rented accommodation but owner accommodation. My mother, God rest her, moved into her new Council house in 1952 she brought up her family their and nothing but happy memories and her Garden became her life. In the 1980’s they bought the house by the time she was in her 60’s she was by herself but the one thing that kept her happy was the love of her house. Can you imagine her being forced into a small flat with no garden?

After a little bit of fooling around he asks for date anything wrong so far? YES what he did not know she was a pupil at the school he teaches at, he had never met her before. The school got to hear about this and he was suspended, his mobile was taken away from him to check for incriminating evidence. Neither the parents of the girl or the girl complained. He was forced to resign and was told he would not get a job in teaching again, so he worked abroad and was killed. Was this a hypothetical story I leave it up to you to decide

Bruge Christmas Market What a price

I took Valerie to the Bruges Christmas Market last weekend, which after seeing the Dortmund Christmas market was a bit of a disappointment but the City itself was great, it is surprising how many violent conflicts it has had yet the buildings still survived. The Market had nearly all woollen scarves hats etc, plus food stall and beer stalls but unlike Germany there was no entertainment and everything was in plastic mugs but still a nice weekend away. What surprised me was the prices ludicrous not just on the stalls but in the restaurants. Having to eat out all the time became expensive, our last meal consisted of 3 beers, 2 fish soups, Chicken Curry and cooked Rabbit total £80, Hotel two nights £260 (was even that great) Tunnel £130 at least the diesel was slightly cheaper at £1.32p a litre petrol was £1.45p. Yet in GB it is the other way round why? Obviously we had to visit the City Europe Shopping Centre in Calais and nearly everything was dearer then Sainsbury, soon the French will be shopping in GB. The Booze cruise is a complete waste of time. I worked it out the weekend cost me about £600, there is not such thing as a cheap weekend away so Sausage and Mash for Christmas dinner and glass of home made wine

I think you have to agree it has not been that cold as yet; in fact my brother and son John are still wearing shorts. So what is this craze of wearing heavy winter coats with scarves, plus those silly hats pulled over your ears, worse still is those Tibetan style hats which makes you look like deputy dog. Oh I forgot the funny sheep skinned lined boots, even one of the waitresses was wearing a scarf while serving and they all wear them in a poofy manor Double up and pushed through the loop. Just wait it really get cold!

where we had to by law allow EU workers into the country we could once again control our own borders. We could trade properly with India, China and Brazil and the money we would save not paying into the EU. Remember in all the whole time we have been in the EU we have always put in more the we got back

Will this happen I doubt it as all the Time we have the Libdems in the coalition Cam will have to back down. Yes for once he has let them know they are a third rate party BUT I bet he has already a plan to sneak back into the EU

Both Germany and France have tried to conquer Europe and lost every time to us Brits, that is why they want us to tow the line so the EU can be become a FrancoPrussin empire

Dear Sir

Following the closure of the East Kent Gazette I would like to congratulate the Sittingbourne News Extra for the speed with which it stepped in to ensure that local people continue to have access to a newspaper providing the type of coverage that national newspapers cannot provide.

In the penultimate edition of the EKG there was a letter from my predecessor, Derek Wyatt, however, my response was never published. I would be grateful if you would rectify that omission on their behalf.

Mr Wyatt accused me of rarely speaking or tabling questions in Parliament. As it happens, since being elected 18 months ago I have spoken in 63 debates, voted in 90% of debates and rebelled against the Government on 19 occasions, which I hope shows that at least I have an independent mind and am not just another party hack!

In the same period I tabled at least 69 parliamentary questions. I appreciate this is less than some other MPs, but I prefer to write personally to ministers if I have a query; a strategy far more effective in getting a proper response.

In addition, I have written regularly to education ministers pressing the need for investment in Sittingbourne’s schools and I will continue to fight their cause without the need to continually blow my own trumpet in public.

With regards to the Northern and Southern Relief Roads; on this I have been consistent. I have always supported the concept of both roads, because I feel they would end the traffic misery faced by people living and working in the Sittingbourne area.

Recently I invited the transport minister, Mike Penning, to visit my constituency at which time I was able to brief him on the challenges facing Sittingbourne’s roads infrastructure, including the NRR, the SRR and the various problems on the A249. It was a stake in the ground for when the current economic crisis is over as the Government is able to spend more on our roads.

Finally, can I assure your readers that although I might not always be as visible as my predecessor, with the help of my very able staff, I am working quietly behind the scenes on behalf of my constituents.

Read the report below I have been saying for several years the Olympics will be a White Elephant and sports participation is on the decrease. Judo has been on the decline for years but nobody ever admitted it, now they have. Not that those involved did not already know, the one sport to buck the trend is Boxing YES Boxing the sport hated by the left wing, do gooders and health and safety nutters.WHY? In Sittingbourne we have two very succesful clubs, one of the coaches have told me that they had as many as 80 kids in a night! What Martial Arts Club wouldn't want that. Maybe the PC correct way of teaching Martial Arts is failing? Maybe the kids are tougher then we thought. Time I spoke to some Boxing Clubs

East Kent Gazette goes out with a whimper

Last week it was announced that the EKG would close and I like many others were shocked and disappointed to lose a local paper I even wrote a thank you letter to them. They said they would produce a bumper edition for their last edition! What we got was a paper thinner then normal and costing an extra 15p.

On hindsight it was not surprising that the EKG folded it consisted mainly of advertising and very little on local news and seemed in the last few years that reporters had their own agenda whether it was political or nepotism. I have felt that since John Rogers stepped down as editor in the late 1990’s the paper changed from being an all round general local news to a more selective items newspaper. The new editor Christine Raynor had left leaning views in my opinion and this showed in some of the articles and letters that appeared, when Labour Derek Wyatt got elected she must have been ecstatic eventually the EKG referred to Wyatt as “Our Del” some what surprising title from a so called independent paper but not all the blame of the failure of the EKG lies at her feet it seems with the changing of ownership did not help.

I was once told that I had sent more letters in then any other individual yet my last letter of thanks were reduced to a few lines, the last few years I have sent a multitude of letters in and I think I had 4 published in the 18 months. When challenged I was told the people of Sittingbourne are not interested in what I have to say! Yet I am often stopped in the street and told liked your letter or have not seen you in the Gazette recently. I believe it was because I told it as it was in language ordinary people could understand

Since e the mid 1950’s our Young Judo Club and the other Martial Arts we do were regular contributors to the EKG and I have to be very honest we have most probably the most successful club in the town in them 55 years maybe we did not deserve an individual well done but why could they not have put “we have had thriving Martial Arts scene” No they put something about a motorbike rider winning Two British Championships in the 55 years our club has won many hundreds of British Titles also European and World Championships. Let’s not forget the success of the Weightlifting clubs in the town how many World Powers lifting Championships have the town had? The local Brickies Football Team get a lot of news and what have they won? Even to the last they were disingenuous by not printing our reports on the MMA competition and Jamie’s Gold Medal in the “Save the Heroes”

Today has been interesting in the press, we have British Aid to India has headlines I have been saying the aid programme is corrupt and should be looked at and administered differently I have said this for years. Sorry I told you so “I never wanted the Olympics” and said it was just a way for a few politicians and Bureaucrats to make money and that Dam EU once again proves it is undemocratic it is nothing but a Dictatorship.

The one that made me mad was The prayers before council meetings, here we have yet a very small anti Christian minority trying to affect the way the majority live expect Dawkins and Bailey will be well pleased with this. The little piece below explains but a couple of extra points which were mentioned on Radio 4 this morning

1) The council had a vote on the matter and the majority voted on keeping prayers . NSS this is called Democracy

2) Only one atheist in the Council complained

3) Prayers are said at the beginning of council before attendance is registered. So do not like prayers do not go

4) Who is paying for this court hearing and where do they get their money?

5) There is something perverse about the NSS and its members when they want to outlaw such a harmless action

6) How does prayers effect the way the council is run and does it harm anyone?

EKG R.I.P.

I was shocked and dismayed when I heard that the East Kent Gazette was closing. Although we live in a fast technical age local news is still best distributed by a local newspaper and everyone read the EKG. I have been writing letters to the paper for over 40 years admittedly not many were printed over the last couple of years but where else can you voice your opinion on local issues? TV and the other Kent newspapers only highlight major’s issues but local people want to know about some of the minor things that happen in the area.

What of Sport? Where will you get the coverage? once again not from local TV and the KM and KOS group rarely put in the progress of local clubs they concentrate on County Clubs fixtures and minority sports get very little coverage from them. The EKG has supported my Young Judo Club since its inception in 1957, yes 54 years of Judo and part of our success has been the reporting by the EKG on our triumphs and defeats. Could the Swale Martial Arts Club have started new sections like our Sambo and MMA classes if it wasn’t for the light of publicity given by the EKG NO!

I hope some entrepreneur starts up an equivalent of the EKG as the Town and area needs a local voice. Can I on behalf myself, my family, my club and the people of Sittingbourne thank all the people who have run the EKG for over 100 years and say WELL DONE you will be missed

Lets return to the days when TV produced Drama programs and good comedy but the reality programmers are cheap to watch and cater for the lower masses.

If the Euro crashes why will it be catastrophic for GB? Now I genuinely ask the question because I cannot see it, because we will trade with the same countries but just in different currencies. Mind you the last business you want to be in today is the Pub game, it is that bad pubs now put on entertainment on a Saturday to get people to drink and beer is going up next year. Ended up in the Sun at Bredgar where at least you could hear yourself talk but was only half full.

He pays £8 an hour as a qualified Cabinet Maker you must be joking by all means pay a low wage while they are learning but its no incentive to spend years on low wages learning a trade then come out to £8 an hour that £64 a day. Or is this a proper apprenticeship or just another scam to pay low wages; did this Kid come away with all the correct City and Guilds? Public Sector Strike

I think the strike by the Public Sector workers is wrong not necessarily because of their grievance. Although after reading details of the pension scheme it seems better for the lower paid but thy do not count for much when it comes to the Unions. No it is the fact that they do not have a mandate to strike with only 25% voting in favour. Surely it must have at least 51% of its membership in favour. Now if someone doesn’t vote that must be seen as a No vote and if the Unions put up such a bad case to their members the majority do not vote that is the fault of the Unions.

The hypocrisy comes from David Cameron Pseudo Libdem government, they say this undemocratic because the majority did not vote for it yet when the majority of the people want a referendum on Europe it was rejected. They threatened to rush through parliament laws to stop the unions striking on such a low turnout, yet they can not rush through laws to stop immigration which is killing this country or laws to stop squatters.

The one day strike will not effect the general public a great deal it will be a one day inconvenience that is all, this is about the left wing Unions having a battle with Conservative led government. Something I thought I saw the last of in the 1970’s and 80’s both are wrong and both do not care about the public.

Miles is moved after accident

some of you may know that Miles Loscombe, one of our Judo Kids, was involved in a serious accident some weeks ago his head was hit by a speeding car. Since then he has been in intensive care at Great Ormand Street. It has traumatic time for his parents but we are pleased to say that there is a little light at the end of the tunnel, His father George has told us that Miles has received funding to be moved the rehab centre at Tadworth. Miles recover will take a very long time so I am sure all of you will say a little prayer for him to aid his recovery.

Two things caught my eye in the paper today the first was the Civil Servants Strike. Sorry I do not have a lot time for these well cosseted workers who work in a protected environment not known to workers in the real world but they may have a point in that if they signed a contract when they started work which states they can retire before any other worker and get a handsome pension in the bargain, that contract must be honoured no matter how bad it is. Yet after saying that is this strike really necessary? It seems we are drifting back to the Union dominated 1970's. With only 25% of the Union voting for a strike how can they validate strike action? The Union also show scant regard for the security of this country when they insist their Immigration Staff strike leaving our borders open to terrorists. Border Control Office should not be allowed to strike, like the Police, for national security sake.

Valerie is 65 today, happy birthday have treated her and the rest of the family to a lovely Chinese at the George Teynham Had a brilliant night out, all the Grand Children were present , John was their with is young lady, Susan was their alone, her husband has cleared of with some Grandmother, so I am told (must keep my hands to myself) and Donna is still not talking to her mother, maybe when have gone she will realise what a friend her mother was.

So as you can see this getting old is not all it is cracked up to be, but at least Val and I are still together and I know it sounds soppy I love more now then I did when I married her. I know! stop being sick one of the side effects of getting old is you start getting emotional. So she has had the meal she wanted, next I will take her to Bruges in a couple of weeks time for the Christmas Market plus I gave her a cash bonus on her retirement. That was a joke! all the time I am about she can not retie, it was bad enough going to Lithuania last weekend and having to pack my suitcase for the return journey

Mind you she is in good nick she went for a check up because she has reached 65 Blood Pressure 120 /75 Blood Suger 6.5 Cholesteral 3.5 Pulse 67 that something some 20 year olds wouldlike I know I would want them figures Oh and she lost 7lbs. Thanks to the Wee I bought her last Christmas she is on it 5 days a week plus she uses a vibrating board

I am in a bad mood

I had to go to Vilnius Lithuania for the World Sambo Championships; the journey was horrendous first the M25 and M1 with its road works an mad Lorry Drivers. You are told to travel at 50 mph yet theses juggernaught monster are just a few feet behind you with all their light on trying to push you on, no wonder there are accidents. Yes and most were foreign, to top it all some were on the phone other were lighting up fags or drinking. Then arrive at Luton airport (we no longer use the correct term aeroport) where about 80% are foreign national and nearly all eastern European, not that I minded as they are going back to their own country, departure gate was like a cattle herding station where we waited stacked together for boarding. Had a good seat on the plane till some one brought a 6 month baby on board and sat behind and cried continually for 2 ½ hours. Return was not better on the Monday had another baby behind me and the plane was full with more Lithuanians taking English jobs, then into passport control where the queue was nearly 400 yards the equivalent of going around a running track, their excuse for this was it is always busy on a Monday as all Johnny Foreigner returns from a weekend break, nothing to do with the fact got a bol**cking for not doing their job properly.

As a lot of us said the EU was doomed to failure and the Euro crisis we are proved right but the Europhiles want to keep it alive so they can enjoy luxurious life style. I had a nice compliment given to me the other day; an old friend of my parents stopped and said she had read about the government reintroducing the British Empire Medal for people who help others. She suggested that I deserve one for all I have done for the Town, I was extremely touched whether others agree with her is another matter. I said someone who is as vocal as me with my views do not get awards I had offended to many people especially the people who recommend you for these awards. It was a nice thought though and I said the only thing I would get was the CDM (Cadbury Diary Milk)

This made me think what are the honours awards? Lets be honest most are not for ordinary people no matter how hard they work for the Community or for there various organisation, yes I know they are thrown the odd morsel like an MBE or OBE etc but the real awards go to the upper crust or people with money. Knighthoods are practically guaranteed to top Civil Servants who are paid extremely well to do a job of work and receive a good pension, well if staying in one job all your life is criteria for a Knighthood what about all those who work for one company all their working life? Money is the easy way to buy an honour you gives a massive donation to any political party and you get your knighthood etc recently a multi millionaire tried to donate money to the Conservative Party they refused so he approached the Labour party and they accepted, so the politics did not matter just the getting the gong did. Alternatively you get some Pop star being awarded gong who private life style is a disgrace, surely a gong is something that people respect or is just another out dated medieval tradition?

For some time I have realised we do not really live in a Democracy where the people of this country decide their future we have to rely on Representative Democracy where we select a person to represent our views and opinions. Yet once selected they can and most often do ignore our wishes, the recent vote in parliament proved that. If we want a true democracy we must have referendums on all major subjects which affect us the people and maybe a vote on who gets a gong

Yet I have an idea why not make an award called the British Volunteers Medal this can awarded to anyone who has spent a least 30 consecutive years in the Voluntary sector or can be awarded for exceptional service and I mean exceptional . It need not be an expensive medal but the award would be a method of appreciation for all the years of dedication they have put into their chosen path

Interesting weekend on the local scene on Friday night we popped up to Bredgar Village Shop and café, for some months they have being doing a take away Friday for Curry and Fish and chips. Both I and Val thought we would pop in and have a sit down curry and was great. The curry was what I call an English version of curry rice on a plate with the curry in the middle, spicy but not over the top great. Met Drew and his wife there and had a good old chin wag with a glass of wine. There is talk that they will open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday for food, drinks and a chat. Let face it we could do with something like that in the area as we have plenty of restaurants where you eat and go most do not want you sitting their all night, as for Pubs they are either gloried restaurants or have these massive TV’s, with loud music and loud people, So Bredgar café open up and get back to what a pub used to be somewhere to meet and talk.

Saturday I grandkids wife and son visited the newly rebuilt Thames Barge the Edith May at Lower Halstow; during winter months it’s a small café. Really great going into an old barge seeing the work they have done in restoring it to its previous glory. The barge is heated by a long burner so you get the smell of the burning wood, also you can smell the reclaimed timber not everyone taste but it added to the authenticity of the Craft. In the summer it takes people out for cruises maximum of 12 people cost for a days trip is £720 bring your own food i.e. £60 a head, I think that is reasonable do I have any takers?

Bonfire Night always bring back memories from child, getting a pipe and aiming rockets at Trevor Jordan’s house which was 6 doors away, lifting the pipe and thinking I can use it like a bazooka but forgetting that the one end should be blocked, the rocket falling out the back and whizzing across the ground. Did you get up the following morning to see how many dead rockets you could find? More importantly can you remember why you done it? Can you remember the naughty boys? I remember one boy I knew who put a banger down a Red Pile Box will not mention his name as became a Policeman. Me being taken to court because of a Firework, some of you may remember the old town hall (where NatWest is now) well there used to be an alley way there. I walking one way and a school chum, Dennis Roper, was coming the other way he threw a banger at me which landed at my feet and exploded. For two 14 year olds this was hilarious but to women nearby with a child did not think so she started screaming and before I knew it was grabbed by a Copper. I was hauled up to the nick I think it was still in Park Road then and charged with something or other. My next step was magistrate’s court, where I said it was not my firework but someone else, The beak said they had heard that one before and fined me 17/6D, as he done this he looked up at my father and said “Nobby make sure he pays it not you” I found out that dad had done several judo demo’s at Fetes for the Magistrate. That did not help me I still had to pay and got a whack in the process.

No w I thought this was part of their planning consent but I was wrong there is nothing in their planning permission to say they have to they have to employ local labour So where did this rumour start from and why did not Morrison’s or Swale B C not deny this and say “Martin Clarke why do you not get your facts right?” WHY because it suited both of them to continue the rumour

I recently signed a petition to get Parliamentary hearing on the fact we are heading for a country of 70 million which is unsustainable. The interesting thing was that the figures for Foreigners in this country are only 20% are from the European Union. If this case and we got rid of the other 80% there would be enough work for both the British and the EU citizens. Swale Martial Arts Club has told everyone their mobile has to be switched of during lessons, we had occasions when the phone rang pupils would leave the mat to answer them, this was a health and safety issue plus extremely bad manners. How many times have you been in a restaurant or Pub and they go off the person on the phone then speaks three times as loud as everyone else and 95% of the time it is unimportant . Waste Paper collection and the money it makes has been the backbone of a lot of Charities but now Kent County Council under the guise of a EU dictate have now restricted what hey can collect. They now can collect only from Private Individual, no longer can they collect from Factories and shops as this is classified as trade waste. So the charities can no longer raise funds and some may have pack because of this and the businesses and shops will no longer be able to get rid of their cardboard free of charge. So who gains of course the Kent County Council they will charge businesses a fee to collect waste paper and cardboard and the sell it to recycling units KCC you are Con Men. It does not stop there in Folkestone a Charity has had a skip placed in a convenient spot for some years and local people would put all their waste paper and cardboard in it. This can carry on as long as each individual fills in a form every time they place something in the skip and there is more to come in the future all packaging will have its own individual Identity mark so when it leaves the shop and get dumped they KCC will know where it comes from and this will be classified as Trade Waste. It does not matter that a private individual buys an item the packaging will be the property of the seller, so in future all paper and cardboard will be trade waste. Most of the money made this way will go to unknown bureaucrat’s wages and entertainment Jollies and Cameron told us he would cut back on this type of bureaucracy yet another lie

Did you also know that all businesses have to fill in an annual report on what trade waste they have dumped, the EU have allocated a special code for each piece of waste there is so many they have to publish a book with all the codes, how long did that take a EU officials to do and how much did it cost? spoke to a chap i used to live near when i was younger and he now works at Morrison's and in his words he f~~king hates it.he does nights which he says is his choice, but their man management there is rubbish and the amount of foreign workers is so high he sometimes doesn't even speak to an English speaking person all shift.he reckons close to 85 per cent now are foreign and said that Morison's wanted to build a new building on the site next to it but got turned down by s.b.council cause they know that they have gone back on the agreement that they would be employing only 20 per cent foreign workers and not locals.

With regards the number of foreign workers employed at Morrison's... I do not believe the number has gone up, indeed, I know that the management are working hard to increase the number of "local" workers.

For instance; they are working closely with Sittingbourne Community College to ensure pupils there are better prepared for work as and when they leave school.

However, it doesn't surprise me that a higher percentage of the foreign workers work on the night shift, because that is the least popular shift, as your friend's comments intimate! That would give the appearance of a higher percentage than the overall reality.
Although I do not believe the story about the Morrison's planning application I will let either Andrew or Gerry answer that question.

What a weekend, I had already booked a site for the weekend as I was attending a Judo competition but I could not have booked a better weekend. I have been travelling to Bedford for Judo and Sambo events for 40 years but have never stopped just drove up and back again. For 40 years I have missed some great country side, lovely village’s pubs and great Bedford town with the River Ooze. Although Bedford was a bit of a culture shock I have never seen so many women in Sari’s with their heads and face covered plus the different languages spoken at one time I thought I was in a foreign country. After while instead of asking directions I would ask do you speak English which most of the time was followed by no, mind you it was a Sunday and I expect most of the English were in Church. I forget to mention the hanger where the Airship R101 was built which recently saw the Batman Film being produced, must not to forget to mention the 5 Bells at Henlow brilliant food and plenty of it.

We stopped at Henlow Bridge Lakes site this is predominately a Fishing site but has recently moved into Caravanning and Camping. This was an excellent site one of the best I have been to and will certainly be coming again, only two complaints one the Road Noise took some getting used and two had to pay for electric separately from booking fee.

I am yet to go in my caravan with an incident, this time tried pushing the caravan with leg (false knee and all) when I heard an almighty click and felt pain, panic and more panic thought I destroyed my false knee. Luckily Val was sympathetic and told me not be stupid and said it would alright in a day, my response was you a ****** Doctor and she was wrong it was alright in two days. On arrival got a chair down enjoyed a cup of coffee (well she had to get in my good books again) went to get up and the chair fell over me on the ground much to the amusement of my first wife, that’s it I am having a kip. Yes you guessed laid on the bed and that broke. I have my suspicions!

The years seem to go like a speeding bullet; I expect all of us in our 60’s plus think that. It seems like yesterday that I was attending friends weddings, then christenings, then their kids weddings and now I am attending 40^th wedding anniversary ( I had mine last year). In a time when marriage and long term relationships are treated like some long time archaic ritual by the intelligentsia it is a pleasure to see that traditional things like marriage can work.

On this occasion I was invited to Graham and Lynn Jacobs 40^th wedding anniversary, Graham with his brother run the very successful A & A Covers. What they both decided was to have the celebration at the place where they celebrated their wedding Bobbing Village Hall, this event was not a big elaborate affair but gathering of Family, Friends, Not the normal Disco affair but we were entertained by the very talented Jacobs family. Keyboard player Bradley Jacobs (Grahams son) got his group together to entertain, then came Natalie Jacobs (Keith’s Daughter) a Folk singer followed by Keith on the Bagpipes and the finally was the Jacobs Brothers doing a tasteful striptease ( I was told to say that). Who needs to watch that plastic X Factor when you had local talent on the doorstep?

An Obituary printed in the London Times....Absolutely Brilliant !!

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Holiday in Bodrum Turkey September 2011

This was our 4th trip to Turkey and our 3rd Holiday in the country, some 25 years ago I attended an IBF Congress and Karate tournament in Istanbul and did not like the place.

The first to places we holidayed in was Kalkan 2 hours from Dalaman aeroport and for this reason we decide to go some where there was not such a long drive from aeroport so we picked Bodrum.

The resort was Turquoise Sitise, Milas, Mugla the brochure showed a beautiful complex just 15 minutes from Aeroport on reaching our destination. In the brochure it did state that there were steps! But the amount came as a shock the first flight was about 25 steps then a 20 yard walk and then a further 18 steps to the apartment. To get to the apartments swimming pool was a further 50 yard walk then up a further 30 steps, if you wanted to go to the Bar and communal pool there were a further 40 odd steps plus 100 yard steep incline and I mean steep. I thought for my age I was reasonably fit but the first time Val and myself walked there I had to stop and have a break, when I got there I was puffing like an old steam train, the only time we walked it again was to book a hire car. What a relief to get into a car.

After having a moan the apartment was very clean as was the whole sight and there were plenty of pools even if they were not as close as suggested in the brochure and the coastal areas are beautiful with some excellent beach areas all with restaurants, toilets and showers. There were plenty of excursion on sea and land if you wanted them, for night life you had to travel to Bodrum

Our first meal out was in one of the on site restaurants which consisted of soup for myself and a mixed grill, we had lamb shish 2 bottles of wine, 1 beer, 2 vodka lemonades total cost 120 lire £47 not a bad price, at the end of the evening i ask for the bill and gave them 150 lire 1/2 later still waiting for the change, when I called the waiter over he told me I had the change NO I Did NOT Then came the owner with five of the waiters telling me I must have forgot and made a mistake before I could say anything VAL buts in and said in a threatening voice "He does not make mistakes" I had to laugh afterwards realising he had brought all waiters over to intimidate me which did not work especially as I told him to run along and get my 30 lire needless to say they received no tips

This was unusual for the Turkish people who are normally so polite and caring but I was told by a Cafe Owner in Bodrum beware of those not listing prices as they charge what they like one Irish couple were charged 60 lire for two Donner Kebabs£23, I did not hear of anything like this when we stayed Kalkan

Food and Drink has become very expensive in Turkey I am told it is because I £ is so weak and the lire is strong but sometimes I feel it is greed for example price for a bottle of water is between 1 Lire and 5 lire, some shops would not put a price on things and people were charged a different price on the same item, this was particularly prevalent with loose goods i.e. fruit. Car hire is about £35 a day for a 10 day hire but you only 125 KM then it is 1lira per km.

As this was a gated community everything evolves around tourism so if you go out of season which we did mid September the place is dead with no entertainment unless you want to travel 30 miles. This does have its advantages as there is always loungers around the pool, no screaming kids, no loud music to the early hours and youngsters rolling home drunk and loud at 5am

The area around Bodrum has literally thousands of these holiday apartments and what I see the most were empty, a lot were still in their shell form state I am told in high season it is packed but how can they afford it when 7 months of the year they are empty and of course they can not. On owner was telling me he bought his unit 2 years ago and is trying to sell for £82,000 some hopes more like £40,000 is the going rate. Some are renting for a 12 month period to Turkish families for £200 a month. I know the recession is biting everywhere but letting in locals to live will eventually turn the place into a massive council estate. In fact where at the beginning of our stay I said the complex was clean by the following Monday when local families started arriving we saw the appearance of empty cans and bottles, plus soiled nappies just thrown on the grass I complained to the management agency and it took three days to clean plus loose dogs started wondering around the complex

I love it when the advertise a corner shop as a Market especially as they have very little in it not like our local Paki Shop which is normally full to the brim with products they could certainly come to GB and have a look at one of these shops for ideas NO on second thoughts we have enough foreigners in GB

The price for the apartment was only £250 for 7 days we stopped 11 days and as I said before the apartment its self was good size and clean. would I come again I doubt it the stairs put me off and if the renting to local families is to be the norm I feel it will bring the area down by the end of the week the communal pool was nearly all Turkish residents, they were no problem but you felt out of place not a good thing for a tourist

Whilst on SunSet Beach, which is one of several beaches on the beautiful blue crystal sea they are basically concrete wall around the sea where they have loungers, chairs, parasols etc and cafe/Restaurants. I got talking to a Software programmer from London he was in his early 30's and had bought a two bedroom apartment for £60000 and tells me some of the 3 bed villas with pool are fetching £180000 he reckons he has already made a profit. He did make a very interesting comment he said young people in the City are money rich but time poor and with Bodrum just 3 hours from Gatwick, this city slickers can get away for long weekend break. He intends buying more it sounds good but I am not to sure with a deeper recession heading our way and massive over build of these apartments I would be very wary.

The local Restaurants were not up to much because of end of season nothing much on menu more cafe unless you went into Bodrum. I had a lovely Sea Bream there but once again got caught got molested at the front quoting a very cheap price, at the table I was invited to try some nibbles and they were nice calamari, olives etc what I did not realise they £4 each nibble I had 4 but the meals was nice we on the waterside looking on the Castle. The best meal of the week was on the Saturday we went to the Paradiso in fact they picked us up and brought us back, this was a lovely restaurant well mannered staff, a singer on a guitar in the back ground, moonlit night I felt like proposing all over again to Val but then realised I still find it difficult to kneel on my false knee but thought was there. The main meal was Casserole which came in a flaming clay pot a brilliant bit of theatre but also very taste and considering this was a quality restaurant the meal for two with a bottle of wine came to £44 which I found very reasonable. This place was the only one I could compare with Ozgars Turkish restaurant in Faversham who does an excellent meal.

Whilst sitting on the Sunset Beach I noticed a little Boat Park up the beach, the boat dropped anchor and people started milling round him buying fish, there was no staging post you had to walk across the rocks or swim in the sea to buy from him. I bought a couple of Sea Bass for £10 this seemed a reasonable price for fresh fish and with Valerie coking it they were delicious.

I enjoyed the holiday but it was spoilt with my stays in Kalkan Kaliman this was a far better area with plenty to do and good shops to visit but I still feel Turkey is one of my best holiday destinations and lets be honest there is no such thing as a cheap holiday let me give you a quick run down Apartment £396 Flight £539 Aeroport Car parking £72 diesel to aeroport £20 car hire and insurance £380 (extortionate)£50 diesel I have not included food or spending money. I would not go to this part of Turkey again if I would return it would be to Kalkan in May but have to say I have gone off very Hot Sunny Holidays so next year will be two weeks in Devon in my caravan you can not beat it any rate the way the country is going I will not be able to afford a Foreign holiday next year

Final thing I managed to lay on Sun Lounger and break it, no matter where you go people have mobiles stuck to there ear, no matter where you go you can get a can of coke and the Sun, every pub/cafe has a Flat screen for Football (horrible) Best buy for your holiday a KINDLE had plenty of books on it but most importantly I received the Daily Mail every day for 75ps. Gatwick is being refurbished when we got back we were mis- directed went up and down on a lift bloody night mare

Flying is certainly the pits the waiting, the queuing, the uncomfortable seats then arrive at destination waiting queuing and they say holiday should release stress?

Final Final thing watching adverts in a foreign country can be a good guessing game one caught my imagination

So back the action the camera again pans in her backside and no fiddling any more and they win the game

Poll Tax was faire then Council Tax an elderly women recenty went to court for refusing to pay her Council tax. She said that her husband had died but instead of her Council Tax dropping by 50% it dropped only 25% the same is with my flats if a single person is in ocupation they pay 75% not 50% and when the flat is empty for 6 months I the owner have to pay 100% for an empty flat. Then there are the houses with many adults only one pays Council tax, My House has 4 bedsits I am the only one who pays Council tax those in the bedsits pay nothing my council tax is the same as next door married couple with 4 children. I notice the great unwashed are not starting Council Tax riots
