The International Sambo Federation sent me a Christmas Gift
of a Calendar and a Book with a value of approx. £90 UPS charge them £130
delivery charges. Now if you receive a gift with a value of over £30 you have
to pay Import VAT i.e 20%. So to receive this gift I had to pay( Yes I had to
pay) £52.12p VAT plus £11 Brokerage Surcharge a total of £63.12 So this Book
and calendar cost a Total of £283.12p.
This was a present so if you know you are to receive a gift tell the sender to
value it at less then £30
Question why do you have to pay VAT on a gift? UPS must be the most expensive carrier in the
World?
