Below is a circular from our MP Gordon Henderson and I have to agree with him that Swale is a beautiful and attractive place to live in. Sometimes we forget what is on our own doorstep
MP visits Swale “jewel”
Local MP Gordon
Henderson this week visited Swale Marina and saw for himself the fantastic
yachting facility that is attracting to the area visitors from all over Europe.
Mr Henderson was
shown round the Conyer based marina by owners, father and son, Paul and Simon
Smedley, who have invested a large amount of time and money to make the 200
berth facility one of the best places to moor a boat in the Southeast of
England.
Swale Marina
offers yachtsmen an idyllic safe haven at the head of Conyer Creek, which runs
off the Swale between Sittingbourne and Faversham.
Mr Henderson
said:
‘It never ceases
to amaze me how many wonderful places we have to offer in Sittingbourne and
Sheppey. We have such diversity. We have everything from the Blue Town Heritage
Centre, with one of the only old time music halls in the country, to the
fantastic windswept Elmley Nature Reserve.
‘We have a number
of real hidden treasures that few people know about, including Harty Church,
Tonge Pond and the Saxon Way. This week I discovered another jewel in Swale
Marina. It is a superb boating facility that has the advantage of being located
in a beautiful part of Kent with wonderful views of countryside and sea.
‘I am immensely
proud to represent a constituency that has so much diversity and so many
wonderful fantastic attractions. The problem is that we are not very good at
promoting our area and few people know what we have to offer.
‘So the challenge
we face is to use those facilities to help improve our local economy by
attracting more visitors to the area. We can do that by unveiling our hidden
treasure and publicising them!’
