Ode to Freedom or was it

As someone who had a German Mother who he loved dearly and some one who is proud of his German Heritage 2009 is quite an important year for 20 years ago the Berlin Wall came down and Germany was re united. To celebrate this event they had a concert where Beethoven “Ode to Joy” was played but was renamed “Ode to Freedom” this piece is my favourite piece of music. The celebration was seeing the collapse of communism with a hope for freedoms and democracy, no more One party state, No more un elected officials dictating your life, no more un elected Commissariats, no more un elected Presidents and best of all no more will your country be governed by Corporate Super State I.e. the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) This tune was to signify all that.
So it seems ironic that the same tune is now being used by the European Union as their Anthem, the EU where they have unelected officials dictating your life, unelected Commissioners, unelected President and countries being run by a corporate Super state the EU.
I wonder if those who celebrated the demise of East Germany and all it stood for would think that 20 years later they would live in a slightly more benevolent system which they just escaped from.
