Listening to Radio 4 this morning an article came on about Cricket which according to the Cricket Authorities has been a great success this year. With a lot more television coverage and lot more at that peak time between 6pm – 7pm, they also went on to say that there has been a lot more funding for grass roots cricket which has resulted in a 25% increase in participation. I am pleased to hear this because Cricket is one of those sports that are more then just a game; it shows that the traditional English way of life is not being forgotten and an invention like Football and Rugby that has been given to the World. Not many countries can boast such a thing. My only criticism is that local Cricketers tell me a different story one of where Clubs are closing and those in existence are struggling to maintain members. If the first part is true I would like to know there recipe for success because many other sports and my own Judo are struggling in spite of the Olympic Games.
